In a session I had with my counselor Eleanor last week she said to me, “Testing is not trusting.” I realized in talking to her that much of what I’ve been calling “trust” is actually me simply “testing” new attitudes, techniques, and approaches… hoping they will work out, but fearing that they won’t (or at the very least wanting some kind of guarantee that they will.) Maybe you can relate to this?
In this week’s video blog, I talk about this dynamic and the important distinction between testing and trusting. When we expand our capacity for authentic trust, we can experience a deeper level of peace and confidence, and we’re able to create success in a much more elegant and genuine way.
Watch the video below and leave a comment here on my blog about how it relates to your life and/or any questions you have about it.
Wow Mike that was an incredibly powerful video! I think that your vulnerability to these things you talk about makes me not fear my own vulnerability and brings a much greater understanding. Thank you for being such a great teacher Mike. I am very Grateful. {{{ <3 }}}
Kevin,
You are welcome! Thanks for watching the video and your kind words…
Cheers,
Mike
Love it! Beautiful distinction you make here. I vacillate between the two all the time. I guess our culture’s worship of productivity (or at least the illusion that we are actually being productive) sends me back into “doing” mode rather than letting go and trusting. But you’re so right – it’s exhausting and sometimes counter-productive! Thanks for the video.
Amen!
Hi Mike,
i bought your book, be yourself, several years ago when you spoke at an NSA meeting. I also watched your book launch last week. You are doing amazing work. Your comment about questioning working from morning to night on your business struck a chord with me. I am also an entrepreneur and hear how much time people put into their business. It feels like more than I want to do with my life. So, I am also questioning this approach.
Trusting that we are moving in the right direction is a challenge for me as well. I was raised under a veil of fear of scarcity.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Cynthia Klein
Cynthia,
You are welcome…thank you for your kind words and your honesty. Trusting is a practice…day by day, moment by moment!
Cheers,
Mike
Hey Mike!
YES! I think I got it, thank you!
Mike please excuse/accept my roundabout way of understanding your video “Testing is not trusting.” For some reason I thought of Master Yoda’s teaching of Luke Skywalker in the swamps of some far off and distant planet.
Just like Master Yoda said “We Must DO, there is no Try. We either DO or DO Not.”
I see now that the true genuine approach to everything in life is to trust wholeheartedly in it and allow for us and the universe to do our thing!
Much Love to you Mike!
Thanks again,
Jose T.
Wow, I do more testing that I thought. I find this very insightful. Thank YOU!
Such a great message Mike! I so needed to hear the message about trust. Attachment always trips me up and the way you explained it as it relates to trust was very helpful. Also just finished listening to your new book – loved it! Thank you for being so open and sharing your gifts!
Mike,
You always have something to say that I can immediately apply to my life! It’s been a blessing to know you, and inspiring to see you SOAR!
Thanks for all that you do.
Best,
DB
