Staying present is a simple concept and something many of us know about, however, it’s much easier to understand than it is to practice. I’ve been recently noticing my own tendency to either reflect on the past (with a sense of regret) or think about the future (with a sense of worry), neither of which are all that helpful or healthy.
What if we stayed in the present moment, embraced it, and chose to live our lives there as much as possible? We could eliminate lots of needless suffering, stress, and anxiety.
Check out the video below where I talk about how we can live more of our lives in the present moment. Feel free to leave a comment here on my blog about how this relates to you and what you do specifically to stay present.
This was so great to hear! I was having such a reflective morning about life…not sure if it was the weather…all grey and gloomy…but I just couldn’t get out of it. Then I get your email and listened to your blog. It was so right on time, thank you! It is so true that the present moment is where life is. It’s where we can make a difference to not only our lives but others as well. If we aren’t fully in the moment, we may miss a chance to connect, to love, to be there, or just to be… so thank you!!!! You made my day! 🙂
Thanks Mike. I was about to start my morning meditation and got your email and blog post. Staying in the moment, always a great thing to be reminded of. I was very interested in the idea that worries about the future set us up for a disappointment. I believe that my thoughts create my reality so what a great reminder. Don’t Go There.
Blessings and gratitude,
Rossana
Thank you for another wonderful message! This one really spoke to me today, actually most of them do. But this one came at the perfect time. All that you said I can so relate to especially about the busyness we go through all day long and needing to just go within and forget all thats around us for a moment. I also liked what your counselor said about worrying is just setting you up for future anger or disappointment, great way to look at it and help me focus on the good stuff happening now. I do your 17 minute meditation every morning now, it’s great. Thank you for all your inspiring and helpful messages!
Mike:
Always enjoy your videos/blogs. I have felt ALL of my life that when Jesus created me that he forgot to solder some wires or install some chip because i have been anxious or worry about things it seems all of my life including now. It seems like I am never in the NOW but regretting the past or worried about the future. Do you believe that a person may be born with these tendencies and since it may be a DNA thing, that there may be no escape?
Your comment would be appreciated.
Regards, Dan
Mike, you always speak your truth so eloquently and with so much honesty and sincerity. Thanks for being you!
Thanks Kevin!
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the video. I know about the present moment, but great to be reminded so eloquently. Monkey mind can take over when you’re not watching!!!!
Kind regards
Kris
Thanks for the timely reminder. It is so simple, and yet can be so hard to do. When I’m truly present, I really can access joy.
Kind regards,
Heidi
Dogs. You can only be present when you spend time with your dog.
Of course, you can’t do that all day…staying present can be very hard. Good post!
Loved your video! Like all of your postings, it was so very genuine and sincere and that is what connects me with your work, I like the term monkey mindedness which is how my mind works usually and your strategies of breathing and noticing ones feet on the ground or meditations are great reminders. Thanks very much for sharing nuggets such as these from time to time! It always make my day to hear your messages! All the best!
to paraphrase Wayne Dyer – “if you’re not “now here” you’re “nowhere” – thanks for the reminder to keep in the here and now! Al
I often read your article for getting a clear idea. A Unique idea thanks for sharing. This post is really useful.
