On today’s show we talk about caring about and challenging each other, which is Pillar #4 from my new book, We’re All in This Together: Creating a Team Culture of High Performance, Trust, and Belonging. For teams to perform at the highest level and unlock their greatest potential, they need to have a strong balance of nurturing and high expectations. When people on a team feel cared about and know that their leader and teammates will push them to be their absolute best, everyone can thrive. This isn’t always easy to do for many reasons, but it is essential for true success, even and especially in challenging times like right now.
On today’s show I talk about embracing sweaty-palmed conversations, which is Pillar #3 from my new book, We’re All in This Together: Creating a Team Culture of High Performance, Trust, and Belonging. These are conversations that often involve conflict, feedback, or other things that aren’t easy to address effectively. Even though they can be scary and difficult, when we’re able to talk about important issues openly and authentically, it has an incredibly positive impact on our relationships, our teams, and our overall performance and well-being. We discuss some of the ways we can do this successfully and why this is so important.
Full Show NotesOn today’s show I talk about focusing on inclusion and belonging, which is Pillar #2 from my new book, We’re All in This Together: Creating a Team Culture of High Performance, Trust, and Belonging. Inclusion is about having respect for and appreciation of the differences of everyone on our team, and belonging is about creating an environment in which everyone knows they’re an integral part of the group. Belonging is a fundamental human need.
These things are essential to the health, culture, and success of our teams (and any group), and they’re often difficult to address authentically for a number of reasons. It takes willingness, awareness, and courage for us to both engage in authentic conversations about inclusion and belonging, and to actually move things in a positive direction on these fronts. And, if our teams are going to thrive, we must be willing to do this important work together in an on-going and effective way.
Full Show NotesOn today’s show I talk about creating psychological safety, which is Pillar #1 from my new book, We’re All in This Together: Creating a Team Culture of High Performance, Trust, and Belonging. Psychological safety is essential group trust, and it is foundational to the success of any group. When we create an environment within our team that is safe for risk-taking, disagreement, failure, boldness, and authenticity, we’re able to innovate, perform, and thrive. This isn’t easy, but it’s so important, especially right now.
Full Show NotesOn today’s show I talk about loneliness, which is something I recently realized I’ve been feeling, but haven’t been acknowledging. There is a lot of loneliness in the air right now, understandably. And, like any emotion, when we authentically feel it, we have power. But, when we avoid or deny it, it has power over us. We explore healthy ways for us to feel our emotions genuinely and connect with those around us in a healthy, authentic, and productive way. This is not easy stuff, yet it is so important.
