So many of us, myself included, are struggling with mental health challenges these days. Even if we aren’t, we probably know people who are and want to be able to support them. While we’ve made progress in recent years in how we think about, talk about, and treat mental health, there is still a lot of understandable yet unnecessary fear, shame, and stigma connected to it. On this episode, I talk openly about my own mental health journey and the importance of being real about how we feel and asking for the support that we need. Caring for our mental health is as essential, if not more so, than caring for our physical health, especially right now.
With all of the ups and downs we go through, especially these days, it can sometimes seem like life is just happening to us. However, even in the face of challenges, we are way more at cause than at effect in life than we often realize. My guest on this episode knows a few things about what it takes to design an extraordinary life. Sheri Salata was the executive producer of the Oprah Winfrey Show and the President of the Oprah Winfrey Network. She’s an author and teacher who, through her own extraordinary journey and her inspiring wisdom, reminds us to create a life we love, wherever we find ourselves in the process.
Full Show NotesThere is such a strong need for transformation these days – in our work, our lives, our families, our organizations, our society, and our world. As we have seen and learned in many painful ways over the past year or so, some of the ways we operate – personally and collectively – aren’t ideal, equitable, healthy, or sustainable. On this episode, I once again talk with my friend Scott Shute. As the Head of Mindfulness and Compassion Programs at LinkedIn, Scott develops and delivers programs that assist in the well-being of leaders, teams, employees, and customers. He also has a brand new book out today called The Full Body Yes. Scott’s book, his work, and his life are dedicated to changing our work and our world from the inside out.
Full Show NotesThere’s an important difference between struggling and suffering. Given all that we’ve been dealing with over this past year and the many challenging dynamics of work, family, health, relationships, and what’s going on in our world, many of us, myself included, have been struggling. On this episode, I share vulnerably about some of my own challenges and talk about five specific things we can do to effectively navigate times of struggle, so that we don’t get caught in the trap of suffering.
Full Show NotesSetting healthy boundaries is both as important and challenging as ever these days. Both at work and at home, being able to speak up, say “yes” and “no” authentically without guilt or pressure, as well as having the courage to negotiate for our preferences, desires, and needs, are all essential aspects of our well-being and success. On this episode, I talk to my friend and colleague Terri Cole. She’s a psychotherapist and the author of a brand-new book called Boundary Boss. In our conversation, we discuss why boundaries are so difficult and necessary (both personally and professionally), especially right now. We also talk about some specific things we can do to create healthy boundaries for ourselves, our families, and our teams.
